Why wouldn’t one be obligated to love their family though? Like under what circumstances?

dysfunctional families, having abusive parents, family members who throw each other under the bus or freeloader relatives expecting their family members to do everything for them because they’re related. Are people who say “you don’t have to love your family” right?

    Hello,
I was taught to believe that blood is always thicker than water no matter what.

In Asian culture, we are always obligated to love family.

…Is it the same in Black culture too?

@lilyn09 That’s not always the case in Black families. In fact I’ve learned that family isn’t about whose blood flows in your veins but the people who love and care about you.

I always stick with family but mysterious001 has a point too when it comes to people we love and care about. Some friends are so close that they are like family.

@lilyn09 I say people who truly care about you are more important whether they’re blood related or not.

Mysterious001, well, I won’t nescesarily say that they are right for that. It’s hard to love someone when they are being abusive.

My motto is love who loves you. They don’t have to be family. Some people love those who are always there for them above everyone else.
